NAF visited Intrepid in Aberdeen on 30 June to 1 July, together with two representatives from Styrke. These were Arne Geir Mehl, Organizational secretary, and Fraser Knox, Negotiator, who chose to join our visit.
The rig is currently staffed with a number of permanent employees in NDN and some temporary workers, but also many employees from Noble internationally, and agency employees from there.
We had some good conversations, both with our members, but also with all the international employees in Noble Drilling.
Some of them chose to join us, even thought it unfortunately, only will be for a shorter period.
We feel a general uncertainty about the future, both from those who are temporary employees, but also from many of those who are international employees in Noble Drilling.
Many asked about the possibilities for permanent employment in NDN, in connection with this project. Unfortunately, at this point, we can only answer that we fully understand the uncertainty that many must live with, and therefore we naturally want to get as many permanent positions as we possibly can.
But with a contract for 50-90 days only, it is not enough for us to demand many permanent positions. This would just lead to a new round of dismissals.
Having said that, we must also say that the company has become much more positive in their statements to us, regarding getting more rigs up and running in Norway. We have written about this before without anything happening, but this time we have more faith in it. Several options are being seriously worked on, but we must wait a little longer for something more concrete.
Everyone on board Intrepid, is now on a 2-4 rotation, and everyone will switch over to our collective agreement, either when they cross the border while sailing, or upon their first travel out on Intrepid in Norway.
In practical terms, we can again state that the company agrees with us that all NDN employed, who agree to travel to Aberdeen, will follow our protocol from 2018 "Agreement regarding work outside the Norwegian shelf"
This protocol states, among other things, the following:
- Work outside the Norwegian continental shelf in this context shall be based on volunteerism.
- The employees maintain membership in Norwegian National Insurance Scheme during short temporary assignments (as defined above) outside the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
- MDN will make advance deductions as if working on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
- With regard to personal tax, the individual employee must not be worse off than if he/she worked in Norway.

Helicopter transport to Intrepid.
Here we were faced with major challenges, because DNO could not find available helicopters in Norway, but fortunately the solution to this came while we were on board. After many negotiations about alternative solutions, DNO was finally able to announce that there will be departures from Stavanger with Sikorsky S92. In other words, completely as usual.
In addition to several meetings with DNO and the company, we have had close and constructive cooperation with the Federal Secretary for HMS in Styrke, Henrik Solvorn Fjeldsbø, in the work of assessing the alternative solutions that DNO came up with in this process. We know Henrik as a very dedicated person, with a very strong focus on safety around helicopter transport on the Norwegian Shelf, and we of course greatly appreciate Styrke's involvement in this.
Hydraulics salary
What happened at the salary settlement this year, will not make any difference to our ongoing work to find solutions for our hydraulics. And this matter still remains a permanent item on our agenda with the company.
A committee in Styrke has worked for 3 years to create a more equal distribution of the level in the individual salary groups, and this meant that the groups A and A1 were merged back to what it was before.
NAF never supported the creation of A1, and for this reason, among other things, the salary level became minimal between the two groups.
Incidentally, this was an interim settlement, where we normally do not negotiate the salary groups, but there was a broad agreement that if the plan for this equal distribution of the salary groups was to be implemented, it should be done now, to avoid it affecting the next year's main settlement.
International employees on Norwegian contracts.
NAF is ready to sign an agreement. But we must wait for DSO, who are currently conducting their own negotiations with the company.
Clause 3.7 of the collective agreement - The right to go ashore.
As previously informed, the case is scheduled for the Labor Court on 2-3 September 2025.
We will of course inform you as soon as something new happens.
But with this, we at AU and the Board of NAF, wish you all a really good summer.
